Some of the
most famous authors in the world have used ghostwriters as their
claim to fame for the books they've published.
At its most
basic description, a ghostwriter is a prolific writer who is paid by
the client to create a story, article, or nonfiction manuscript. The
finished work never mentions the ghostwriter's name. Hence, the text
is owned and "authored by" the client.
The
ghostwriter, in most cases, receives no royalties, or any profits
from the sale of the work, unless previous arrangements have been
made between the ghostwriter (author) and the client.
I have
standard "set" fees for short ghostwriting projects (short
reports, press releases, classified ads, sales letter copy, SEO
niche market articles, etc.)
However, for
longer works, such as a nonfiction manuscript for a book for your
area of expertise (or a memoir), or for a product or web site that
you're creating, the fees are more hefty, since a major portion of
my schedule will become dominated by such a project, and because
many hours are required to work with the client to develop and
approve the concept, and to write the material and deliver the final
copy.
To get
started, the best approach is to
contact me by e-mail, and tell me
what you'd like written. Then we can schedule a conference call to
see where it leads us. When we both agree, verbally, then I will
write up a proposal and create a timeline for the ghostwriting
project.
Payments are
handled in thirds: One-third in advance, one-third before I deliver
the second group of chapters, and one third when I have completed
the book, and before it is delivered to you.
Everything
is explained in the proposal and payment plan.
