About

Hi! I’m Candace, Your Book Editor and Ghostwriter.

As a book editor and ghostwriter, I’m often asked why an author should hire an editor when a family member or close friend has already read the book and pointed out several typos.

As one author I’ve worked with so aptly stated, “I thought writing the book was hard, but I was wrong. Writing was actually the easy part. Finding a professional editor and doing your own marketing are what makes or breaks your book sales.”

What does a book editor do?

A book editor takes your words and then edits them, rewrites them, corrects grammar and spelling, and then steps back from the manuscript to see what works and what doesn’t work. Then she fixes everything. When you read your final manuscript, everything will sound like it’s you talking, but all the words will easily flow on the page and make the reader want to read more.

A book editor is someone who holds your hand throughout the entire editing process.

Why would someone hire a book editor?

Authors and business professionals hire a book editor to put the final touches on a manuscript before it is published. As the writer, you will most likely not see the errors contained in your manuscript because your mind is already filling in the blanks as to what happens next.

You would want to hire a book editor to raise the chances of getting your book published by a traditional publisher, or picked up by a literary agent. The most important reason is that you could proofread your manuscript ten times and you would still not catch all the grammatical errors or typos.

A book editor, when hired, reads the text just like a reader would, and after an editor has read and edited thousands of manuscripts and books, it’s almost as if the errors come flashing in front of their eyes much like a 3D movie.

Is a book editor also a ghostwriter?

A ghostwriter is someone who takes your thoughts and words and turns them into a publishable manuscript; a writer whose name does not go on the book, but you get credit and get paid as the author. Sometimes during the editing process, and depending upon what level editing you’ve ordered, the book editor will rewrite (or ghostwrite) portions of your manuscript to make all the dialogue and action flow better.

What does it cost to hire a book editor?

Book editor rates can vary between 2 cents a word, up to as much as 10 cents a word. It just depends upon how much work you want your book editor to do, and how much rewriting is necessary to provide you with the best possibilities of having a bestseller.
